Normally acne is associated with the face however acne can also be a real problem on various parts of the body too. Whiteheads and blackheads can pop up on your knees, legs, scalp, shoulders, arms, neck, back and even your bum.
Acne that appears on your back has been nicknamed “backne.” Normally this kind of acne isn’t painful although it can depend on the individual. But generally speaking it’s not as bad as facial acne. Occasionally acne can itch and it’s certainly not pleasant to look at. You might then cover it up which can make it even worse.
What causes body acne?
The pores on your skin can become blocked with oil, dirt and swear which in turn caues bacteria to grow under your skin. This is pretty much the same as facial acne however with body acne you have your clothes rubbing against your skin. There are different medications that you can cause the acne and talking to your doctor is a good idea as you might be prescribed alternative meds.
The clothes you wear should be loose and breathable as this will reduce the amount of sweat your body produces. Sweat can really irritate your pores which in turn causes a breakout of acne. The pores on your back are really sensitive and in the even they become too warm you will sweat and attract more dirt to the oil glands which will cause acne, so those hidden areas should be properly ventilated when controlling your acne.
Another issue about body acne is that often you forget to clean certain areas of your body such as you back because it’s hard to reach. So it’s easy to see how they can very quickly become blocked. A gentle cleanser should be used to scrub your back, chest and neck each day when bathing. This will ensure that sweat and bacteria doesn’t get trapped and bring on acne.
So make sure you keep your skin nice and clean using gentle cleansers, wear loose clothing and talk to your doctor if you think your acne is being caused by medication you are on.
