When you suffer from acne you can feel very lonely, particularly if you are at school and the other kids are making fun of you. When your a teenager all you want to do is fit in with your friends and it’s not easy when your face is covered in zits. Although you might be healthy in every other way, having acne can really have a bad effect on your mental wellbeing.

Young acne sufferers can really have their confidence and self-esteem take a battering and it might even be enough to put you off going to school. You can end up afraid to talk to people or look at them because you’re worried that people will ridicule you. Even the thought of going to see a doctor can feel embarrassing.

If you’re a teenager with acne you can feel as if your life has been destroyed. It’s not quite as bad for girls because they can wear make-up to hide their spots however boys won’t normally wear make-up. How we look to the rest of the world can really affect how others treat us. Unfortunately so many people with acne are teased and this is normally through ignorance. It’s thought that people with spots are dirty but in actual fact, acne is not always dealt with as easily as simply giving your skin a good wash. Hormones play a major role in acne.

When sufferers get other they realize that acne is something that most people have had to deal with to some extent at some point in their loves. Acne is often something you grow out of as your hormones settle down so it’s not something you have to deal with forever.

Also, when you’re older you have more confidence is looking for help which means there’s a good chance that the acne can be treated properly. Any young person with acne needs to understand that they are not alone and that there’s help out there. Being at school with acne is incredibly stressful but as you go out into the “big bad world” life actually gets easier.

Of course, not everyone is able to get rid of acne forever. There are some adults who still have to deal with it and it can be just as heart-breaking as teenage acne. Adults can feel that acne stops them from forming normal relationships with other people as they feel ugly and repulsive.

People like that are in the minority but it does not stop an acne sufferer feeling worthless, ugly and having extremely low self-esteem that can have a marked effect on other aspects of their lives including work.
Again, this can be dealt with, not only through medication but also by understanding it is what’s inside that matters and that if you are happy and content with whom you are, no one will even notice your zits.
